Community Service
Grade 6

May 2008

In case you didn't hear, the 6th grade community service project was so much fun! Both teams, 6-1 and 6-2, gathered to make our school grounds at the middle school and the high school, more beautiful. The half-day activity started in the cafeteria where Mrs. Ray explained all the things that we would be doing that day. Since many of us had volunteered to bring in certain gardening supplies, we had everything we needed.

People who brought in rakes raked, those who offered brooms swept, and kids that donated flowers weeded and planted. If you didn't bring anything in, it was "clean-up" duty for you! Picking up all the trash and doing some Spring clean up was another of the many important jobs!

By the end of the time day, we found that we had done a lot. Colorful flowers were everywhere, and beautiful green plants made our campus look "environmentally friendly". All the trash that had been covered in dirt around the small trees was gone, and the sidewalks were swept clean. When all the work was done we took a break to enjoy some freeze-pops!

Coming into school at the beginning of the day, I saw our school with potentially beautiful grounds, and by the time I left, my vision had come true! If you're at the Middle school or High school soon, take a minute to look around outside and see what the sixth grade have accomplished!

We would like to thank all of the parents who donated what we needed to make this all possible! Together we can make a huge difference! Below are some pictures of the activity. Enjoy!
